Closing of the bones is a postpartum ritual designed to support a new mother’s healing and closure post birth. This ceremony has roots in Mexico, North Africa, and Russia. The ceremony involves a massage using scarves and/or hands then a ritual of tightening the scarves around the body.

This ceremony can be done individually with your doula or with friends and family included. We begin with an herbal bath or foot bath and birth story processing, then the massage and wrapping of the scarves as you release any emotions that may arise, we end the ceremony with a steaming mug of herbal tea or hot cacao. The ceremony lasts around 2 hours and is typically performed around 40 days after birth, but can be done before or after this timeline if desired. Closing of the bones is a beautiful way to honor and support women through life’s transitions. It can also be supportive in healing from trauma, loss and grief.

It is an absolute honor to create art with your placenta. I use a traditional printing method using the placenta’s natural blood imprinted on white watercolor paper resulting in a unique tree-like image. Placenta prints are often seen as a symbol of the life-giving connection between mother and child, and a way to honor the placenta’s role in pregnancy. These simple and beautiful prints can be framed and displayed or kept as a personal keepsake.

Travel fees are included up to a 40 minute drive from my home in Akron. A $10 travel fee per visit will be added for 40-60 minute drives. If you are outside of this travel range and still interested in care, please reach out to discuss availability.

I love meeting with new or aspiring doulas and sharing my journey and process, answering any and all questions and helping you create paperwork and resources for your own doula businesses. There is space for all of us and such a need for women in this space. We are the village.

Are you looking to learn more about herbalism basics, specific herbs or how to make herbal infusions, tinctures, baths, steams and oils? I love meeting with new or aspiring herbalists and answer questions to the best of my ability. I can also point you in the direction of herbal classes, books and local herbalists. I teach hands on skills and you always go home with an herbal preparation.
